何敬群（1903-1994），生於江西，少時家貧，然奮發志學，勤勉自修。廣涉經史，好為詩詞，抱負已見。未及弱冠，雙親遷化，遂承家業，入藥材行研習本草之學，經營貨殖商賈之事，惟其好學之心始終不改，孜孜矻矻，造詣益深。一九四九年遷港，經商之際，同時任教於珠海、經緯、新亞等書院，為香江之古典文學教育奠立深厚基礎。其學出入儒道，兼通內學；尤擅詞章，於理論建構外更有創作實踐，文采斐然，卓爾俊逸，允為一代師範。本書作者誦其詩文，想見其為人，故致力蒐求匯纂何氏之相關文獻，綱目分明，網羅齊備，意在保存文獻，同時光揚先賢令德，使其黼黻文思流傳廣遠，展陳香港學術精粹之所在。
